ELD Compliance Rule

This refers to the electronic logging rule that was published in December 2015 by DOT and FMCSA to improve safety. Safety is improved by preventing injury and avoiding crashes on the highways. The eld compliance is one of the safety rules that require the commercial drivers to prepare records of their duty status and hours-of-service. Fleet owners were given four years to comply with this rule and make the necessary switch. Even though most of them find it difficult to comply with this rule, consultants and the available fleet management solutions can help the fleet owners in achieving a smooth transition. The need to train employees on this technology is one of the biggest headaches facing the fleet owners when implementing this mandate.

With this technology, fleet owners are required to move the mobile-first, modern world. This is possible as many people have embraced the use of tablets and smartphones in their daily lives. The ELD technology is paired with a sophisticated fleet management software, which has led to the modernization of fleet owners. Complying with this mandate has helped in getting rid of the conventional fleet management practices, which are intimidating. It has played an essential role in easing the pain points which are experienced by employees on a daily basis. The following are the benefits associated with ELD mandate compliance.

Reducing the fuel costs

Drivers who have access to free hands-free directions can reduce the fuel costs by eliminating long routes and unnecessary turns. This means that they can arrive at their destinations on time and make their customers happy. Many telematics and GPS providers have started integrating fleet management systems and ELDS to make sure the data is secured stored and safe.

Increased Driver Productivity

This technology has helped drivers in eliminating the need for filling out papers. FMCSA data revealed that drivers were spending over twenty hours every year on paperwork. Eliminating the paperwork is one of the effective ways of adding the driving time to the driver’s lid as well as increasing the overall productivity.

Improved Safety

The use of ELD has greatly helped in improving in cab-safety. This is achieved by accomplishing the following:

  • Sending roadside assistance whenever a driver experiences a breakdown
  • Reducing distracted driving- drivers have been relying on this technology to follow hands-free
  • Helping drivers to monitor speeding-this has, in turn, reduced the fines associated with overspending.
  • Reporting drivers for unsafe driving- this information can be used in capturing events that occur during accidents for liability and insurance purposes.
